Notes

Description
Describes the history, restoration and the desruction by the fire of the Thomas barn (the "Big Barn" located northeast of Woodston in Ash Rock Township), believed to have been the largest barn in Kansas. The barn was constructed in 1910-1912, primarily as a horse barn at a cost of approximately $8,000. The building was 100 feet long and 64 feet wide. The barn was restored by the Classic Big Barn, Inc. organized by Rev. Richard E. Taylor, Jr. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The structure was destroyed by a lightning fire on May 23, 1995.
